The New South Dock swing bridge on Goole Docks is part of the docks refurbishment program. While the other swing bridges were updated and repaired, the old South Dock bridge (circa 1900) was replaced with a lighter, more modern design and capable of withstanding the relentless HGV traffic which enters and leaves the UK's furthest inland port. The new bridge was constructed only 75m away on the dock side, and in the space of a weekend, the old bridge was removed by a floating 'A' framed crane, landed on SPMT's (self propelled modular trailers), then taken to the local maritime museum. The new bridge was then lifted into it's final working position and prepared for road and river traffic.
